Red O

Rick Bayless's Red O in West Hollywood cloaks itself in a chic atmosphere so you will pay more money for Mexican food than you've ever dreamed possible. Is it worth it? Judge for yourself.

We ordered off of the Dine LA menu which included an appetizer, main course, and dessert for $45. We were a little worried when Hubs opened his menu.

My menu was not invisible, and soon chips and guacamole arrived at our table. There was no mention of this on the Dine LA menu, so it felt like we were getting a perk. Yea, free stuff!

It was fine. Not the best guacamole I've ever had, but it was good. Then the appetizers came out, a masa sampler trio.

Pork sope (I don't remember specifically what this was called, and the menu is no longer online for me to reference), a goat cheese tamale, and a plantain something or other. All three were good, but the goat cheese tamale was the most unique. I'm such a sucker for goat cheese. The pork was crispy and had great texture.

For our main course, Hubs had chicken mole.

I'm not a big mole fan, and this didn't change my mind, but Hubs liked it. I had the grilled shrimp with spinach  and rice.

The shrimp was swimming in roasted garlic. I'm definitely going to try to recreate a similar dish at home, as this is my kind of comfort food.

Dessert was solid, too, another trio.

Churros, goat cheese cheesecake with caramel corn (?!), and a chocolate torte. All good, but I wanted more chocolate.

How much is too much for good Mexican food? If that's a question you've ever asked yourself, Red O will provide your answer when the bill for your meal arrives at the table. It will be a large number, especially if you indulge in their delicious cocktails. Red O cost more than I will probably ever again choose to pay for a Mexican meal. But a snack and cocktail during their happy hour (which also includes Saturdays) is an option that is easier to chew and swallow.

Best Dressed at the SAG Awards 2012

Three ladies knocked it out of the park.

1.) Amanda Seyfried

She has never looked better. The gorgeous blue against her pale skin. The beautiful makeup. The to-die-for hair. She looks perfect.

2.) Marion Cotillard

She's one of the most beautiful people on the planet, and probably the only person I would like this dress on. It suits her fashion sense perfectly.

3.) Jennifer Garner

She is killing it this awards season. I can't wait to see what she wears to the Oscars, even though Ben isn't nominated, sniff.
