The Big Island - Kahalu'u Snorkel and Hapuna Beach

Scenic Drive to Hapuna Beach

We went for a morning snorkel at Kahalu'u Beach.

The in/out of this black sand beach is rocky and the water is incredibly shallow so you have to mind the coral.

However, the fish are plentiful and because it's so shallow, it's like swimming in an aquarium.

The fish are unafraid and you can get close.

You can even get close to things you might not want to get close to, like zebra morays.

Eeep! That guy is scary.

Out of convenience, we ate lunch at Island Lava Java next to the condo.

Again, food was good, nothing to rave about.

Drove north...

Headed to Hapuna Beach for the afternoon.

It's a gorgeous beach with deep, soft sand and bright blue water.

Perfect for relaxing, journaling, and swimming.

The Kona sunset is the stuff dreams are made of.
