Wellington - World of WearableArt

We were lucky enough to be in town during the World of WearableArt show (yes, it's one word with selective capitalization), which is this awesome competition where designers create elaborate pieces to walk down the runway. The show is completely choreographed, with a revolving set and lighting. It's quite the production. Hanging clouds. An opening folk band.

No photos during the show, but they had some mannequins outside to give us a taste at what we were in for.

The show was fabulous. Everything was meticulously choreographed with an overall vibe of Cirque du Soleil meets Project Runway.

Dancers, acrobats, and musicians performed while the art pieces walked the "runway," which was a stage that extended outwards in five different directions. Each costume walked all five stage sections, so it could be seen by everyone.

My favorite segment revolved around box choreography where men pushed and danced around large crate boxes, forming unique shapes and even a catwalk for the art pieces. It was very cool. I wish I had photos, but, alas.

The whole show was a blast and unlike anything I've ever seen. So glad we went.
