Fiordland and Up the Milford Road

Today's post is going to be a lot of photos.

They're all going to depict the amazing beauty of Fiordland.

Llamas near Te Anau.

The mirror lakes, which were just smeared by the wind enough to not be exact mirrors.

In Aoraki National Park, we were disappointed not to see any Kea. We saw signs everywhere, "Do not feed the Kea." They seem to be abundant during certain times of the year, maybe during high season when there are loads of tourists who disobey all the signs. But we were Kea-less in Aoraki.

So, we were beyond excited when we spotted this guy in a tree.

The Kea is the only alpine parrot in the world. And, as it turned out, the Kea were out and about in abundance in Fiordland.

They love cars. Because cars mean people, and people mean food. The Kea are professional beggars. And they're smart, and they throw tantrums when you don't oblige them with food by chewing on your rental car.

But they do look beautiful when they fly. All the colors!

After the exciting wildlife encounter, we saw The Chasm.

Baby waterfalls over uniquely carved boulders.

More pretty.

And then we finally made it to Milford Sound.

More on that tomorrow.
