Glenorchy Road and Paradise (It's Literal)

Today we travelled along Lake Wakatipu and up the Glenorchy Road.

The drive was gorgeous, mountains rising against the lake the whole way.

It was a sunny day with interesting, wispy clouds. New Zealand has the best clouds! Especially when they're sparse, often looking like UFOs hovering over the peaks.

We ate lunch at the Glenorchy Cafe. I wasn't expecting much from this place, but the meal ended up being a standout surprise. I had a veggie sandwich that was jam-packed with deliciousness.

Hubs had a more breakfast-oriented option. Also delicious.

Great lunch! Highly recommend when you're traveling the Glenorchy Road.

After lunch, we walked down the street to take some photos at the lake.

The best part of our perfect road trip day was turning onto the gravel road to the Paradise Trust.

Pasture after pasture of sheep (mostly) and some cows grazing, and lots and lots of babies.

Baby lambs are the cutest.

When they nurse, their little tails wiggle like they're possessed. It's adorable.

At Paradise Trust we hiked an idyllic loop that started out through the woods.

Through rolling grasses and 360 degrees.

The sweetest pet cemetery with rooster and pig statues to mark the dead.

On the drive back down the gravel road, I didn't want to say goodbye. Who would?

This day was my grandfather's funeral. The trip/hike gave me some long, beautiful moments to reflect on his life, my life, all the beauty around, and all the beauty to come.
